Weeks 13 To 28 Of Pregnancy And Pregrancy Stage

The article discusses the changes that take place in a pregnant woman during the weeks 13 to 28 also termed as the second trimester of pregnancy. There is also mention of the various fetal developments during this trimester.

Pregnancy comprises approximately of 40 weeks from the last menstrual period. The World Health Organization states a normal delivery term to be between 37 weeks and 42 weeks. The discussion on pregnancy weekly becomes easier by segregating it into three trimesters, each comprising of three months. The week 13 to 28 of the pregnancy is called the second trimester. Most women experience a spurt of energy during this period, and start putting on weight and symptoms like morning sickness start fading away.

The uterus, the muscular organ holding the growing fetus can expand up to 20 times its normal size during pregnancy. In the second trimester movement of the fetus, often termed as quickening, is felt by many women. This mostly takes place in the fourth month, especially in the 20th to 21st week, or by the 19th week in case the woman has been pregnant before. However, some women might not feel the fetus move until much later. The placenta becomes fully functional at this time and starts making insulin and urinates. The reproductive organs of the fetus can be distinguished as male or female. During this trimester, most women begin to wear maternity clothes.

The second trimester of pregnancy is found to be easier than the first. But women should keep themselves informed about their pregnancy during all the three trimesters. Symptoms like nausea and fatigue start going away. But there are some other new, more obvious changes taking place in the body of a pregnant woman. The abdomen starts to expand as the baby continues to grow. Towards the end of this trimester, the babyís movement can be felt. As the body changes to make space for the growing baby one may have back aches or pain in the abdomen, groin, or thigh. Stretch starts becoming prominent on the abdomen, breasts, thighs, or buttocks. The skin around the nipples darkens and there is a line on the skin starting from belly button to pubic hairline called the linea nigra. Some women also find patches of skin getting darker mostly over the cheeks, forehead, nose, or upper lip which is called the mask of pregnancy or melasma. There are also cases of pregnant women having numb or tingling sensation in hands termed as carpal tunnel syndrome. Itching on the abdomen, palms, and soles of the feet, nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting or fatigue can be some other problems faced by women in this stage. Preeclampsia, or swelling on the fingers, face or excessive weight gain is also encountered by some women. Some women might start feeling warm-ups in the lower abdomen region and groin also termed as false labor or Braxton Hicks contractions. This could be a sign of preterm labor or just a false labor.

Thus it is crucial for pregnant women to keep themselves informed about these pregnancy weekly changes and symptoms that may be faced by them and also keep in constant touch with their doctors or health care providers.

Pregnancy being the most vital stage of a woman life, she has to pay extra attention for herself and her baby. A complete balanced diet that is rich in all the nutrients is very important. Pregnancy food should be balanced and should contain all the essential nutrients like vitamins, fats, proteins, carbohydrates, minerals and many more. Diet varies during all the three trimesters
During pregnancy, your body requires extra nutrition for the growth and development of the fetus. You yourself also need extra care for the lactation period to follow. All these nutritional demands are must to be met for having a healthy baby.
