Types Of Data Centers Corporate Vs Internet

    -
In today’ hypercompetitive business environment the success of a business enterprise depends largely on its capability to conduct business round the clock. And for that to happen it is highly necessary that the data, which is the lifeblood of every organization, is transported successfully without any loss, disruption or breach. Studies show that each second more than 3 trillion bits of data is created. In such a scenario, to manage this pool of data what is required is a robust specialized facility housing highly specialized equipments not only for storing and processing the mission critical data but also for the uninterrupted transmission of it to the right person at the right time. Thus, data center plays a proactive role in the smooth functioning of any enterprise or organization.

Data centre or data center can be defined as a facility that houses the computer systems, data storage systems, telecommunications, data connectivity, equipment housing and support, electrical power distribution, backup power systems, environmental systems, fire suppression systems and security systems. A carefully maintained datacenter can facilitate smooth IT operations by ensuring uninterrupted business continuity. For instance, data centers in India fulfill a company’ entire IT infrastructure requirements from colocation services and dedicated hosting to firewall and backup solutions that too at affordable and predictable monthly expenses. This means the company need not incur heavy expensive capital outlays.

Data centers can be broadly classified into two and they are corporate data centers and Internet data centers. Let’ look at each one in detail.

Corporate Data Centers (CDCs)

Corporate data centers are data centers owned by private companies, institutions, organizations or government agencies. Here, the data centers serve the purposes of their own organizations, business partners, associates and customers. It houses all the servers required for the smooth running of applications, application servers, databases, custom applications, messaging servers and so on. As far as support and maintenance are concerned it is taken care of by in-house IT departments or contractor partners who offer backups and hardware maintenance like fixing failed disks, adding more storage, processors, memory and so on.

Internet Data Centers (IDCs)

Internet data centers refer to those data centers owned and operated by commercial operators and service providers. Companies and enterprises can access information technology services through internet connectivity. These third party service providers provide a plethora of services to the clients and these services include wide area communications, internet access, web or application hosting, co-location services, dedicated hosting, bandwidth services, load balancing, firewall services, disaster recovery services, managed servers, storage networks, and so on. For instance, an eminent market player having dedicated servers in India provide hosting services resource, including both feature packed dedicated hosting and managing the hosting with the expertise to handle the client’ business.
