Shared Hosting Services- A Growth Scope For E-Commerce

    -
The advent of technological innovation led to the development and growth of e-commerce, which refers to the buying and selling process of products and services over the Internet or other computer networks. The entire process, which involves electronic transfer of funds, supply chain management, Internet marketing, electronic data interchange and online transaction uses the World Wide Web along with email and other mobile devices. However, the basic presence of an e-commerce industry is through a 24/7 online business website which is possible with the help of a reliable web hosting company.

Web hosting requires resources such as servers, server software, security updates, professionals to provide 24/7 technical supports, and other aspects of the service. In other words a complete functional data center is required. Depending on the size of the organizations, one has the option of either owning a data center or using shared hosting services. While working out the economies of hosting a website, the shared web hosting service works out as a better option in comparison to the investment required in a datacenter. A shared web hosting refers to a web hosting service wherein a number of websites reside on a single server in its own partitioned space and is connected to the Internet. The members using the service thus share the cost of server maintenance.

Shared hosting typically uses a web-based control panel, which can be custom developed for large players in the field. The shared hosting services can be implemented either as a name based one or an IP based one, however there are control panels, which allow a combination of both. In an IP-based virtual hosting, a single web server is configured with a number of virtual network interfaces along with the physical network. The web server software uses an IP address with a SSL certificate for clients to log on as a dedicated IP hosting. On the other hand, the name-based hosting service, the single machine with a single IP address serves multiple host names, thus sharing IP hosting and certificates.

Since in a shared hosting service, number of people share the same server placed in data centres, the costs incurred by each account holders become affordable than a dedicated server hosting. Further, though using a shared server, account holders have their own privacy with a guaranteed set of resources such as disk space, monthly traffic, database space wherein one can develop and maintain a number of websites depending on the server capacities. With a number of players in the market, the shared hosting service providers offer their clients different shared hosting plans enabling them to switch between plans with ease and as per requirements Such flexibility makes the shared hosting services a preferred choice in comparison to dedicated solutions.
