Origin :

The concept of Health Insurance was made relevant in 1694 by Hugh the Elder Chamberlen in England. In the late 19th century,Health Insurance was actually disability insurance, covering only the cost of emergency care for injuries that could lead to a disability. Patients were expected to pay all other health care costs by themselves. During the middle to late 20th century, traditional disability insurance gradually evolved into the modern Health Insurance programs.

Public Health Insurance

It is a kind of health care system that is financed (entirely or mostly) by citizens' tax payments. Examples include Medicare and Medicaid in the US, Medicare in Australia, medicare in France, etc.

Private Health Insurance

This kind of health care system is financed through private payments (either made to insurance companies or directly to health care providers). Examples include Southern Cross Healthcare in New Zealand, AMS Medical Insurance in USA, etc.
