Aer Arann, a regional airline is located in Dublin, Ireland. It carries out scheduled and chartered services to eight destinations in Ireland, four in France and twelve in UK as well as Jersey. Its hub is at Dublin Airport with branches in Cork Airport, Galway Airport and Waterford Airport.
The birth of Aer Arann in 1970 was to allow visitors an opportunity to island hop to the various islands between Galway and the Arann Islands, off the west coast of Ireland. The Arann Islands, perched on the water off Ireland’s western coast, boasts a rugged landscape. Today these picturesque islands are visited every year by hundreds of tourists that come in droves for a taste of the vibrancy of Nature and its culture. For over three decades Aer Arann has served visitors from the mainland with its frequent 10 minute flights to the Arann Islands for an idyllic holiday.
Aer Arann began operations in August 1970. Padraig O Ceidigh bought the airlines in 1994 and began massive expansion of its routes and fleet with the launch of scheduled services in 1998. Services then extended to UK and Jersey in 2002 and further extended to Lorient, Nantes and Britanny in 2004.
Aer Arann has earned the status today of being one of the fastest expanding regional airlines in Europe, with a turnover of 94 million and the passenger listings exceeding one million. Aer Arann has 600 flights weekly and has a fleet of 16 ATR aircrafts flying across Ireland, the UK and France with staff strength of 400. In April 2007, Aer Arann made its first major soccer sponsorship deal in the UK when it announced its sponsorship of Sunderland AFC’s pre-season tour of Ireland.
The recent flight destinations of Aer Arann stretch from Galway to New Castle and Bristol, Sligo to Manchester, and also Waterford to Birmingham. Waterford Airport became a new base for Aer Arann in the month of May with an ATR 72 aircraft operating flight services to London, Luton, Manchester, Birmingham and Lorient.
The most successful year of operations for Aer Arann has been 2007, with its steady increase in destinations, flight frequencies, aircraft capacity and even in its fleet network. Aer Arann will soon extend its services from its Waterford and Galway bases to Amsterdam, Bordeaux, Malaga and Faro in the summer months of 2008. |
